LUIGI FOZZATI

Hi is especially interested in the eco-systemic relationship between mankind and water from prehistory to the present day. High official of Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali he has worked in Piedmont, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. As a scientific member of the Underwater Archaeology Technical Service of the General Directorate at the Ministry he has collaborated on protecting and researching on the waters in the North of Italy and Sardinia. For twenty years he has been running research on the 3 pile-dwelling villages on Lake Viverone. For another twenty years he has been in charge of wet-site and underwater archaeology in Venice and its lagoon. He devised and co-directed the Archeomar 1 and 2 Project for mapping underwater archaeological areas in Campania, Basilicata, Calabria and Puglia; and later on for Lazio and Tuscany. He took part in founding the Italian Association of Underwater Archaeologists (AIAsub), the Italian Institute of Archaeology and Naval Ethnology (IstIAEN) and the Italian Institute of Underwater Archeology (IIAS). He is currently a member of the International Academy of Underwater Sciences and Techniques and of the Board of Directors of the Sebastiano Tusa Foundation. Scientific coordinator of the Underwater Archeology Conference of the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism (Paestum). Promoter and manager of the Contemporary Italian Pile Dwelling Project (PIC Project): study of the continuity of the use of wood for construction along the Italian coasts from prehistoric times to the contemporary age.
